Bernard Cornwell--try Howard Fast, Edward Rutherford, Patrick O'Brian

Patricia Cornwell--try Tess Gerritsen, Jonathan Kellerman, Robin Cook, Jeffrey Deaver, Kathy Reichs

Catherine Coulter--her FBI mystery series reminds me of Kay Hooper's series without the paranormal aspect. Also try JoAnn Ross's Callahan Bros. trilogy (technically filed in romance) or some of Nora Roberts's more suspense-filled novels (those put out in hardcover first by Penguin Putnam in the last 10 years) For romance, try Mary Balogh, Eloisa James or Jacquie D'Alessandro

Jennifer Crusie--try Millie Criswell, Rachel Gibson

Diane Mott Davidson--try Katherine Hall Page, Tamar Myers or Joanne Fluke (they write culinary mysteries).

Janet Evanovich--try Jennifer Crusie. She has the same wacky humor. Or try Patti Berg or Jane Heller.

Jane Feather--Mary Balogh, Candice Hern, Samantha James

Christine Feehan--for Paranormal romances try Rebecca York, Susan Krinard, Amanda Ashley, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lynsay Sands, Katie MacAlister, Nina Bangs. For the psychic mystery/romances give Kay Hooper's Bishop series a try.

Sue Grafton--try Janet Evanovich, Sara Paretsky, Sharon McCrumb, Jan Burke

John Grisham--try Perri O'Shaughnessy--she(they) write legal thrillers mostly set in and around Lake Tahoe. Also try Steve Martini, Lisa Scottoline, Kathy Reichs or Richard North Patterson.

Laurell K. Hamilton--try Rebecca York, Susan Sizemore, Susan Squires, Christine Feehan or Sherrilyn Kenyon. For a lighter take on the supernatural, try Lynsay Sands or Katie MacAlister

Tony Hillerman--try J.A. Jance, Nevada Barr

Kay Hooper--for romantic suspense, try Linda Howard, for more like the Bishop series, give Christine Feehan's Game series a try.

Linda Howard--Elizabeth Lowell, Christina Skye, Jennifer Crusie, Susan Andersen, Lisa Jackson

Sherrilyn Kenyon--try Christine Feehan, Susan Sizemore, Susan Squires, Lynsay Sands. Or for straight-forward fantasy try Laurell K. Hamilton.

Jayne Ann Krentz--try Elizabeth Lowell, Lisa Jackson, Suzanne Brockmann or Linda Howard, Kay Hooper. All write great romantic suspense.

Stephanie Laurens--try Amanda Quick (pseudonym for Jayne Ann Krentz). These are steamy historicals with great characters and a little bit of mystery. Also try Candace Camp.

Elizabeth Lowell--try Jayne Ann Krentz, Linda Howard, Lisa Jackson

Katie MacAlister--try Rachel Gibson or Elizabeth Bevarly for contemporary romantic comedy; I haven't found anything quite comparable to her Aisling Grey series yet. For her vampire series, try Lynsay Sands.

James Patterson--try Jeffrey Deaver, Jonathan Kellerman

Elizabeth Peters--try Barbara Michaels (her pseudonym), or for more Egyptian mysteries, try Lynda Robinson or Lauren Haney. For archaeological mysteries (contemporary) try Lyn Hamilton's Lara McClintoch series.

Ellis Peters--for fans of Cadfael, give Michael Jecks a try. Also, if you haven't read it, the Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.
